The greater Maassai Mara ecosystem has always had a special place in our hearts. Not least because of the epic amount of wildlife, beautiful scenery and incredible people. Our evolution as a company has also created indelible connections to the area after we owned and ran a static camp on the outskirts of the Maasai Mara National Park for a number of years, working closely with the Maasai community and their elders.
We continue to hold close ties to the area and look to assist the communities where and when we can. We are especially passionate about education as we see this as the key to supporting communities, whom we rely on to conserve and protect the environments which we and our guests find so awe inspiring.
During 2018 we were privileged to receive a donation from guests totaling US$ 10,000. Having been trusted with these funds we had been looking for a suitable high impact project for some time before we identified a school, Mara Learning and Development Centre.
The aim of the project is to facilitate the provision of water from the Sekenani River, 1km away, to the school and then distribute treated water around the school to the kitchen and dining hall, boys wash block, girls shower block and teachers house. The water will be pumped to the school using a generator and then stored in tanks where it can be treated before distribution.
The school currently has no running water supply and these upgrades will have a huge impact on the school and it’s students.
